The Age Gap

The older my two kids get, the more I absolutely love their age difference, 19 months or anywhere around there is perfect!  The older Ella gets, the more I think..."Wow, when Joel was her age I was 3.5 months away from having a new baby...crazy" I am amazed by this, mainly because I think she is still so much of a "baby" and being 15 months old I can still say she is!  I remember distinctly thinking during Joel's "baby days" how big he was and how old he was getting, because he was doing all these new things.  It must have been because I did not have anyone to compare him to and with Ella I always have an older sibling to compare her to, so she was always little!  Our thinking that Joel was getting so big must have been the reason for our longing for a new baby when he was a mere 9 months old and then finding out we were pregnant again when he was 10 months old!  I know it is not as close as some people and not as far as others, it seems to be just a little less than average and 2 years seems to be the average marker with the moms that I run into.

I digress, a year and a half seems to be the perfect age difference for our oldest two.  Ella has loved having Joel to watch and learn from and play with, I don't remember Joel being as interactive with others, when he was Ella's age.  Now it could just be a personality thing, and part of it might be, but I like to think it is because Ella has someone little like her to watch and play tricks on and have fun with.
One of things I like most about being a mom of two is watching my kids play with each other, have fun with each other, enjoy each other and love each other.  I know there will always be those siblings spats but I hope their enjoyment of each other lasts a life time.
